Grass fires burn Logan County; two homes suffer damage

Fire departments from around the county were extremely busy Thursday afternoon as they fought two grass fires. The smaller of the two fires claim structures as the other fire burned an estimated 600 acres.

Grass FireThe primary location of the larger fire was near County Road 68 and Pennsylvania. The winds from the southwest pushed the fire to the north.

Approximately 15 agencies aided the Crescent Fire Department with the grass fire that burned several acres. Luckily, crews were able to keep flames away from a home in the area.

In addition, ire crews were aided by bulldozers as well as two helicopters who released water from the sky.

It is unknown what started the fire.

The smaller of the two fires burned 10 acres, but proved to be more destructive.

The Meridian Fire Department was assisted by Coyle, Langston and Guthrie fire crews as they battled the blaze on North Indian Meridian Road near Highway 105.

Guthrie Fire Chief Eric Harlow says the fire hit three or four outbuildings. However, two homes were hit with one destroyed.

An unoccupied mobile home was lost due to the flames. Unfortunately, an occupied home received moderate damage. A witness tells Guthrie News Page the structure of the home is in part, but suffered smoke damage.

Fire officials have not confirmed what started the fire, but may have been started by a control burn.
