Get those beards and mustaches growing right now so they will be ready for the ‘89er Week Celebration, April 13-19. Tami Boxley, chairwomen of the contest, announced recently that the ‘89er Celebration would include a beard and mustache growing contest.
“Yes, we are bringing back one of the venues from years past, the wonderfully wooly and wacky beard and mustache growing event. Since this is the first year of resurrecting this event, we are not going to have a fully sanctioned contest, BUT we sure are going to have some fun,” Boxley said.
“The event will include three categories for those magnificent mustaches and those beautiful beards: longest, bushiest, and best trimmed. We will even have a kids category with three age groupings: 0-4, 5-8 and 9-12. The kids can construct their ‘beards or mustaches’ out of any material they desire and will be judged on creativity, originality and “beauty”. We are just going to have lots of fun with the whole thing!”
The competition will be judged during the Chuck Wagon Feed, Tuesday, April 14 at the Fairgrounds Building and all the competitors will have the opportunity to ride on a special “facial hair” float during the parade.
“The ‘89er Parade is the largest parade in Oklahoma and this year it may also be hairiest!”
