Applications are currently being sought from individuals who are interested in serving on the Guthrie City Council in a Ward 3 seat vacated by Ellen Gomes, who resigned her post on September 8th.

Ward 3’s primary area of representation is west of the railroad tracks, although there is a small portion on the east side located North of College and West of Walnut.
The first review of applications will take place on Friday, September 30, 2011.
The Charter states that “If a vacancy occurs in the office of Councilman, the City Council shall select, by an affirmative vote of at least four (4) members, and eligible person to fill the vacancy at the next regular meeting of the City Council following the creation of the vacancy or as soon thereafter as is practical.”

In order to be eligible to fill the vacant City Council seat, an individual must meet the following criteria according to the City of Guthrie:
– Must be a citizen of the United States of America, and the State of Oklahoma
– Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
– Must be a registered voter
– Must be a resident of Ward 3
– Must be a resident of Guthrie for at least two years
