Birthday gift turns into $1 Million Powerball prize for Broken Arrow woman

What began as a thoughtful birthday gift from her boyfriend turned into a life-changing $1 million surprise for Christina of Broken Arrow.

On Monday, Christina claimed her winning Powerball ticket at the Oklahoma Lottery Winner Center, becoming the state’s newest millionaire.

Her lucky ticket, purchased at the QuikTrip at 7950 E. 41st St. S in Tulsa, matched all five white balls in the August 20, Powerball drawing. That night’s jackpot had reached $650 million.

“I scanned the ticket a couple of days after the drawing using the Oklahoma Lottery app,” Christina said. “I had to count all the zeroes to make sure I was reading it correctly!”

With her big win, Christina becomes the Oklahoma Lottery’s 91st millionaire — all thanks to a birthday gift that turned into a once-in-a-lifetime prize.

Last fiscal year, the Oklahoma Lottery awarded more than $192 million in prizes to players, boosting both the local and state economy and supporting retail revenue throughout Oklahoma.

Since its launch, the Lottery has contributed more than $1.4 billion to the Oklahoma Education Lottery Trust Fund. As sales continue to grow, so do the funds benefiting students and teachers across the state.
