In a regular session held tonight, the Guthrie Board of Education approved the hiring of Michelle Wilson-Adams as the new principal for Guthrie Upper Elementary School (GUES).
Wilson-Adams brings a wealth of experience from her seven-year tenure at Oklahoma City Public Schools, where she served six years as an Assistant Principal at Rogers and Taft Middle Schools. Most recently, she was the campus administrator at the Linwood Campus of Taft Middle School, overseeing the education of 5th graders.
Wilson-Adams has an extensive background in education, having worked as a special education teacher and administrative intern at Enid High School, as well as an Adjunct Instructor for Northern Oklahoma College on the Enid campus.
She succeeds Jeff Ball, who dedicated 29 years to the district, concluding his career as the GUES Principal for the 2023-24 school year. Related article: Jeff Ball resigns from Guthrie Public Schools after 29 years of service
In the same meeting, the Board also approved a title change for Jay Benson, who served as the GUES Administrative Assistant during the 2023-24 school year. Benson’s new title will be Assistant Principal, reflecting his expanded role and responsibilities within the school.
Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson expressed his enthusiasm for the new appointment, stating, “We are excited to welcome Ms. Adams to our family. She has 25 years of experience in education at various levels and with many different demographics. She will be a great addition to the GUES staff and an asset to our district.”
