Cashion grass fire burns up 800 acres

Several fire departments responded near the Logan and Kingfisher county lines on Saturday afternoon to battle a grass fire. In total, 800 acres burned and continue to burn into Sunday morning.

Firefighters were able to save three structures and hay bales from going up in the wildland fire. A total of 9 fire departments, along with the, Oklahoma Forestry Services, assisted the Cashion Fire Department.

The fire was located approximately five-and-half miles west of Highway 74 and traveled to the north to the Cimarron River.

A portion of Highway 74F was closed down by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office due to heavy smoke and flames.

The fire is believed to have started after a truck was spotted driving on the highway with chains bouncing on the ground causing sparks and igniting nearby grass.
