In his first state wrestling match, Dane Jenkins got off to a quick start, but was not able to hold off in the final period.

Jenkins dropped the match 9-5 to Pryor’s top-seed Stevon Crogan. Jenkins is now 17-12 on the year while Crogan improves to 29-13.

Jenkins, the four-seed from the west, picked up a takedown 52 seconds into the match. Moments later, Crogan scored the escape and Jenkins had a 2-1 advantage after the first.

In the second period, Crogan escaped in seven seconds to tie the match at 2-2 and 29 seconds later scored a takedown to go up 4-2.

In the final period, Jenkins scored his second takedown at the 1:44 mark, but Crogan quickly found an escape to regain the lead 5-4. With less than a minute, Crogan took Jenkins down with 56 seconds left, but 21 seconds later Jenkins escaped to pull within two, 7-5.

Needing two points in 21 seconds, Jenkins was unable to gain position and was taken down one final time.

Jenkins moves on to the consolation round on Friday afternoon and will take on Duncan’s Jimmy Mejia (24-10), who lost to Noble’s Twain Sauvageau.
