It’s hard to believe that we are nearly half way through the year already! Here, at The Chamber, we have been pursuing several exciting opportunities such as the Road Shows, attending national tourism events, building several strategic partnerships with local and state entities that will give us the opportunity to enhance Guthrie’s position with regard to business development and tourism, and strengthening our ties to the Oklahoma State Chamber of Commerce by attending a regional conference, MAKO (Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma). These, along with local initiatives and partnerships will help Guthrie continue to improve and support our local businesses in the coming years.
We have some very special events coming up this week. Meridian Technology is hosting our Chamber Coffee at The Oklahoma Sports Museum at 315 W. Oklahoma St. at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. This will be a great opportunity for you to come and check out this amazing compilation of sports-related artifacts, the collection is truly remarkable. It will also be a fantastic chance to come and check out what is new at Meridian.
Thursday will be our Business After Hours at Cimarron Casino! It will begin at 5:30, but will continue until 7:00 in order to give folks enough time to get off work and make the short trip to Perkins. You will also get to see some of the highway expansion in that direction as you drive there. The route is very easy, Go East on Hwy 33 for 22 miles. Turn right onto Perkins Road just before the junction of Hwy 177 and 33. Turn left onto Freeman Avenue. Check our Calendar of Events for the map or other information you may require. We are hoping for a really good turnout for this event – please bring any potential members with you so that they can get to know us and learn what The Chamber can do for their business!
Next week on Tuesday we continue our Educational Series with a visit from Insurance Commissioner Doak. He would like to discuss worker’s compensation and other issues that business owners in the state may be having. This would allow him to take issues to the Capital and try to obtain resolution. Don’t just keep your opinions in your morning coffee club or around the water cooler, bring any questions, requests, or insights you may have, and speak directly with the person who has the authority to make changes! Lunch will be provided free of charge, so if you are able to let us know you are coming before Tuesday, it would help us to have plenty for all! If you find you are able to make it at the last minute, come on anyhow! It will be Tuesday, May 8, from 12:00 – 1:00.
The next Territorial Christmas Committee Meeting will be held this Tuesday evening at 6:00 in the Library Meeting Room. This is a very special meeting, as the new Chairperson for the Committee will be introduced. The Committee has been doing a great job preparing for December and will be even better with their new leader! Please feel welcomed to join them as they work to make our Guthrie Christmas even more memorable than ever!
Don’t forget to Come Home To Guthrie – MyGuthrieHome.com is getting closer to completion, and we will be asking all of you for calendar items, offering advertisement opportunities, giving you a plethora of choices for sharing your information with the public, and more! Keep an eye out!
