Chamber Chat: Farmers Market, new website coming soon

Bookmark and Share

Greetings! We are currently taking applications for this year’s Farmer’s Market. The goal of the Guthrie Chamber of Commerce sponsored Guthrie Farmer’s Market is to offer locally or Oklahoma grown fresh produce and related products. With the help of our friend Courtney Thompson at the Logan County Health Dept. we applied for a grant this year. The grant money would help us enhance our entrances. This year’s market will begin the first week in June and end the last week in September on First Street between Oklahoma and Harrison Avenue.

We have several things in the works here at the chamber. One of the most exciting is www.MyGuthrieHome.com will which will be a new community website to make it easier for our chamber members to share information about their business. It will also be a site for you to learn what is going on in your Guthrie Home. So keep watching to see what develops. Read next week’s article to see what we unveil next.

The Chamber of Commerce is offering an Educational Series every second Tuesday of every month during the lunch hour.  This educational series is designed to provide an opportunity for anyone to learn about topics such as i.e. Business, Insurance, Computers, Fraud, Marketing, Customer Relations, etc. In April the subject will be Insure Oklahoma and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. In May Insurance Commissioner John Doak will be here. He would like to discuss insurance issues, including workers compensation that business owners may be having in the state.  This would allow him to take issues to the Capital and try to obtain resolution. June will be about corporations: how to form them, what types there are and why should you form one. Plus, the tax and insurances advantages of forming a corporation.  If you have a topic you are interested in teaching or learning more about please contact us.

The Territorial Christmas Committee is still going strong, and has lots of fundraisers planned for the year!  The first one will be in conjunction with the “Raise The Roof” event to benefit the Red Cross.  With Mayor Burtcher on the roof of Vision Source at Division and Harrison, the crowds will be offering lunch for purchase, and the TCC has been given permission to offer dessert as a fundraiser!!!  Please come out and support these great causes from11:30 – 1:30 on Friday the 16th.  The mayor will be there from the 15th – 17th!

The Western Music and Poetry Show will be held at the Bryon Berline’s Double Stop Music Hall Saturday, March 17th at 7:30. Performing will be Members of the Oklahoma Chapter of the WMA: Francine Robison – Tecumseh, Cowboy Jim Garling – Guthrie, Chelsea Beck – May, Donnie Poindexter – Sallisaw, Mark Henkel – Midwest City, and Stampede – Utah
