Chamber Chat: Master Gardener course scheduled for the fall

Bookmark and Share

Many of you have heard the news that I will be leaving the Guthrie Chamber at the end of May.  I will be tackling a new adventure but an old passion: FOOD. I will be opening a food trailer with my brother, Ben Coffin.  We will be traveling around Oklahoma creating menus with fresh ingredients from the farm and or farmer’s market. For more information find us on Facebook under “I Don’t Know & I Don’t Care”

As far as the head of the Chamber, the Board of Directors has put together a committee to select my successor and will be conducting interviews shortly.  They hope to have a person hired by the end of the month so a smooth transition can be put in place.

The Logan County Extension Office has a new group of Master Gardeners.  The next Master Gardener course is scheduled for the fall.  Master Gardeners perform community service as well as meet monthly to discuss upcoming events and educational opportunities.  Contact the Extension office at 282-3331 for more information.

The Guthrie Community Garden is growing!  There are a few recent changes for the garden: more nutrition education, new pear and cherry trees, new irrigation, and a new partnership with First Capital Neighborhood Solutions.  If you would like to help, you can make a donation by contacting Guthrie Community Garden, c/o Neighborhood Solutions, 102 N. 2nd St, Guthrie, OK, 73044.

Growing Guthrie Leadership is off and running.  The group has started a leadership academy and they are almost in their second month of a six-month series.  We look forward to these progressive leaders contributing to our future and theirs!  If you would like to be involved in the Growing Guthrie Leadership or its upcoming events and academies, contact the office and let us know. We will add you to our list and send you the information as soon as it becomes available.

Since this is my last month, I wanted to thank everyone that has helped make Guthrie great!  There are too many to name individually but the Chamber volunteers, board, and employees have been a godsend.  We are grateful as a community to have so many devoted individuals that come together for the purpose of developing Guthrie!  I am not leaving town just changing my adventure.  I look forward to helping the Chamber in the future.

Next week’s Chamber Coffee will be hosted by Guthrie Public Schools at the Jr. High located on Oklahoma Avenue. Please bring a guest and join us at 9:30am!
