Chamber Chat: Triathlon a success; Pet Palooza upcoming

Our second First Capital Triathlon went off very well this year. Two hundred twenty participants and lots of fans descended upon Guthrie Lake very early Saturday morning. This year we allowed relay teams to participate, which meant if you were good at one event and had friends that were good at the other two events you could all three participate under one entity.

Everyone had a great time; you just have to be there to experience the excitement a Triathlon produces.  I can’t thank the City of Guthrie, Guthrie Police Dept., YMCA and the Logan County Sheriff Dept. enough. There is no way we could have pulled if off without their help! The inventors of Make Guthrie Weird Block Party had such a great time they are scheduling another block party for August 2nd! Put the date on your calendar for a fun filled evening. Shirley and Christie at Prairie Gothic have scheduled the event to start at 7p.m. through midnight.  Escondido will be playing live and free along with the Porch Mice! Grab the kids, pack up a few lawn chairs and plan on having a great time!

The Waiting is Over….. Health Care Reform is here. Benchmark Financial Group is helping us inform you about the new Obama Care laws. Vickie Wilson from Benchmark will be in the chamber boardroom, 212 W. Oklahoma this Wednesday, July 24   from 11 a.m. to  2 p.m. to answer any questions you have.  We are planning on having a panel discussion on the 13th of August at 5 p.m. in the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame Museum. We have confirmed Senator A.J. Griffin, and Aetna speaker Colleen Rackley-Cuda to the panel. Senator Inhofe’s office has been asked along with Blue Cross & Blue Shield to participate. I will have more information in the next couple of weeks. The public is invited!

You don’t want to miss the Pet Palooza this Saturday the 27 at Mineral Wells Park between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.  There will be pet adoptions from 10a.m. to noon, Silent Auction, local Veterinarians and groomers will be giving tips on how to care for pets from 1 p.m .to 3 p.m. Pet Show begins at 2 p.m. with categories of  the cutest, most talented, best dressed and best groomed.  This is the Bronze and Silver event for the Girl Scouts. Concessions are available by the Girl Scouts, Rainbow Girls and the Boy Scouts! The Girl Scout Troop goal is to raise money for the Guthrie Animal Shelter. Donations of dog and cat food along with kitty litter will be accepted for the Guthrie Animal Shelter.

This week’s Chamber Coffee will be hosted by the Oklahoma Pharmacy Heritage Foundation located at 214 W. Oklahoma. Everyone is welcome to attend.
