Progress continues on construction of a new 103′ bridge on Charter Oak Rd. west of Santa Fe. Rain slowed the process this week but workers were back on the job Thursday afternoon as the sun came out. Bridge beams have been set and the next step will be to prepare forms for pouring the deck. This could take approximately two weeks according to
the onsite ODOT inspector. After the deck is poured, the concrete will be inspected to ensure it meets density requirements and if all is well, traffic rail will be constructed. Forming the rail requires an additional week of work, but when it is finished, the bridge itself is basically complete.
After completion of the bridge, the road will be brought to grade and aggregate applied 800 to 900 feet on each side of the new structure. Guardrail goes up after that, followed by the application of sod to all disturbed areas. If weather remains favorable, the bridge itself could be completed in approximately 3 1/2 weeks. However, if we receive additional rainfall, work will be delayed. At this point, according to the inspector, the project is halfway complete. A photo
of the construction site and beam placement is posted online at www.commissiondistrict1.com.
Another improvement on Charter Oak was completed recently when Atlas Paving resurfaced half a mile of roadway just east of Santa Fe. This is one of the areas scheduled for road striping later this spring or in early summer.
