Charter Oak Elementary cafeteria to be serving meals soon

Over the fall break weekend, Guthrie Public Schools received approval to occupy the commons and kitchen areas at Charter Oak Elementary. Now, the district is hopeful to be serving meals in the cafeteria soon.

The school district says final cleaning and inspections will be conducted early this week and are hopeful to be serving meals before the end of the week.

In the meantime, students continue to eat breakfast and lunch at their desk inside their classroom.

“The coordination (between the cafeteria staff to the teachers) has been great,” Principal Jeff Ball said about the unusual circumstances of not having a working cafeteria.

With the upcoming completion of the cafeteria and kitchen area, the school’s gymnasium will be the final item to be completed in the school, which opened this year on Sept. 4.

An open house will be scheduled when the final portions of the building are completed.
