The Logan County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to appoint Cheryl Smith as the interim court clerk following an executive session on Jan. 29.
During the executive session, each employee in the court clerk office, including former Court Clerk Rejeania Zmek, were briefly interviewed from the three county commissioners.
Zmek, who worked over 25 years in the office, including over 12 years as an elected official, announced on Jan. 15 she was resigning her post effective on Feb. 1 for retirement.
Smith will fill-in for the remainder of the year when the four-year term expires. Smith served as First Deputy and was recommended by Zmek to be her successor.
