Late last week, the City of Guthrie admitted poor quality of water was running through the water system and reminds all citizens they can request to have their lines flushed.
On Thursday, Jan. 26 the City posted on their website and on their Facebook page that on Jan. 10 they began drawing water from Guthrie Lake to supply the city. The release said, “Liberty Lake was getting quite low, causing a dirty taste and odor in the water. Although the water was perfectly safe to drink, the taste wasn’t pleasant. Usually changing lakes takes care of this problem.”
The City says once the source of water is switched it takes three to four days for the water to circulate through the distribution system.
In addition, the City says, “The Water Treatment Plant is required to have a regular flushing program that refreshes the water in various areas around town and eliminates water sitting too long in dead end lines, becoming stale. In addition to these actions, the Water Treatment Plant operates a Powder Activated Carbon (PAC) system to provide another level of filtration which helps provide pleasant tasting water.”
If you feel like the water lines in your area needs flushing you’re encouraged to call Municipal Services at 405-282-8400 and make the request.
