The 64th Guthrie City Council was seated Tuesday night for their first meeting inside City Hall.
Mayor Steve Gentling, Ward I member Jim Case, Ward II member Jeff Taylor and Ward III member Jason Smedley were sworn in by Municipal Judge David Hood.
Gentling and Taylor were elected for second terms and are joined by Sharyl Padgett, Ed Wood and Brian Bothroyd.
Prior to the seating of the new council, the 63rd council was recognized for their service with a plaque and their ceremonial payment of $1 for their service.
John Wood, who did not seek a third term, thanked past and present council members, city staff and the citizens. Wood said he worked with five city managers, three mayors and a countless number of council members during his eight years.
“I appreciate the opportunity to serve. I am being promoted to citizen,” a smiling Wood said.
Thomas, who lost to Smedley in a tight race, was not in attendance, but Gentling thanked both out going council members.
“I think it is a fantastic legacy in helping our community develop. The City has been well served by these individuals.”
Mayor’s appointments confirmed by council
Mayor Steve Gentling nominated Ed Wood to take over as Vice Mayor, Jim Case (Ward I) to the Finance Committee and Jason Smedley (Ward III) to the Street Committee. All three positions were unanimously approved.
John Wood previously served as vice mayor and on the finance committee and Gaylord Z. Thomas was previously on the street committee.
