Updated on March 22, 2023 — Grant Aguirre sworn into city council seat
The Guthrie City Council will meet Tuesday evening and will discuss possibly appointing a new member to the council.
Three candidates are listed on the meeting’s agenda, including Grant Aguirre, Sharyl Padgett, and James Dennis Smith.
Council members James Long, Tracy Williams, and Brian Bothroyd interviewed the three candidates and have recommended the appointment of Grant Aguirre to the full council vote.
Aguirre served on the council from 1999 to 2003.
In the 2015 election, Padgett defeated Aguirre (119-70) for the Ward 3 seat.
The appointment would not only fulfill the remaining term but the next four-year term that begins on May 1, 2023.
The seat opened following the resignation of Don Channel. Related article: Councilman Don Channel resigns city council post
If any candidate is appointed Tuesday they will be sworn into office immediately.
