The City of Guthrie announced David Cameron Smith as the new Director of Library Services.
Smith has seven years of previous Library experience including serving as a Lead Librarian, Access Manager, and most recently Engagement Manager for the Metropolitan Library System. The Metropolitan Library System is a public library system consisting of 19 libraries that serve Oklahoma County, Oklahoma.
Cameron has a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Education from the University of Arkansas, and a Juris Doctor from Louisiana State University Law Center.
Cameron was selected by an interview/selection committee consisting of:
- Candy Ford- Interim Director of Library Services (Assistant Library Director) 29 Years of library experience
- Kate Corbett- Retired librarian/ Masters of Library Service/Six years prior Guthrie Library Board experience (served as Chairperson of Library Board)
- Liz Botello- City of Guthrie Human Resources, Administrative Services Director
- Leroy Alsup- Guthrie City Manager
“We’re excited for Mr. Smith to be joining TeamGuthrie,” Alsup said. “In addition to being Director of Library Services, Cameron will be an active member of the City’s Department Head Management Team.”
Alsup added, “We look forward to Cameron working with Library Patrons, City Staff, Library Board, Friends of the Library, and the general community to continue and enhance the excellent service and programs that our library provides to our community.”
Cameron will officially start with the City of Guthrie Municipal Library on February 21.
