The City of Guthrie is introducing a new alert system to notify citizens of any emergency threat, including severe weather. The service can contact you by email, phone, text message, or all of the above.
To register follow the simple steps at https://guthrie.bbcportal.com/.
Many citizens take advantage of the system to call their home phone as well as cell phone when storms come during the early morning hours when most are sleeping and unaware of storms moving into the area.
The above service now replaces the Code Red alert system that the City introduced last year.
In addition, you can sign up for Guthrie News Page text and/or email alerts at http://app.signalhq.com/lp/4507/. GNP will update you with any breaking news in the area.
Both services are free, but data rates do apply with your phone company.
Guthrie, like most communities, does not have a public storm shelter so it is important for residents to have a household plan to keep them safe in the event of a tornado. One of the key elements of safety is notification. Storm sirens are sounded whenever a tornado warning is issued by the National Weather Service or a local official sees a tornado on the ground in the area. To ensure that the sirens are reliable, each one is equipped with a battery backup and they are tested on a regular basis.
