The City of Guthrie has been chosen to receive $678,000 in grant assistance through the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP), a program administered through the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
The grant will be used for improvements to sidewalks and intersections along Division Street from the alleyway south of Harrison Avenue to the alleyway north of Oklahoma Avenue.
The total project is estimated to cost just under $850,000, with the City of Guthrie paying $169,000 in funds generated through incremental taxes collected at the 2013 Gentlemen of the Road event.
These improvements were originally recommended through a special Downtown Improvement committee following the 2013 Gentlemen of the Road event. The design firm for the improvements was chosen through an RFP process, and will be through La Terra StudioSM of Dallas, Texas.
“This program makes it possible for local governments to provide a safer, more connected transportation system for bicyclists, pedestrians and drivers. These projects can have a major impact, especially in small communities,” ODOT Executive Director Mike Patterson said.
