With the City of Guthrie’s initiative of removing dilapidated structures, city council members approved the demolition for six structures.
On Tuesday’s night city council meeting, the council unanimously (7-0) approved to tear down and remove 319 S. Capitol, 1221 E. Lincoln, 723 E. Springer, 311 S. Walnut, 1322 E. Springer and 324 E. Lincoln.
The approval came after a public hearing on May 15 to determine the properties as dilapidated.
The winning bid was awarded to K&M Wrecking out of Oklahoma City for an amount of $37,886.
Each year, the City budgets $35,000 for demolition of dangerous and unsafe structures, but staff recommended the approval of the full contract. A budget amendment will be completed to fund the balance.
Three other properties were heard on the May 15 hearing, but have made progress on cleaning up their properties, including removing the structures.
“I think it is encouraging that we are having an effect. The owners are demolishing instead of us (City). That’s a positive,” Mayor Steve Gentling said.
Gentling gave credit to the code enforcement office for the progress.
