The quarter finals of the 5A playoffs are here and there are some marquee match-ups that will help settle the final four. For an audio perspective click here to listen.

Last week a perfect 8-0 record and now Guthrie Sports Page takes a look at the second round games.

Coweta (9-2) at Guthrie (10-1) – Jelsma Stadium

Coweta enters with a six game win streak, Guthrie has an eight game win streak. Both teams have stout defense’s so it may come down to the more effective offense.

Prediction: You can listen to the game on 105.1 Fm, or on Guthrie Sports Page.
Result: Guthrie 27, Coweta 3

Deer Creek (8-3) at Booker T. Washington (10-1) – S.E. Williams Stadium

The Hornets, as expected, won comfortably on their home field last week while Deer Creek went on the road and took down Ardmore. Now the Antlers have to hit the turnpike and take on the top ranked Hornets. On the year, DC has struggled against highly ranked teams.

Prediction: Booker T. Washington 35, Deer Creek 14
Result: Booker T. 23, Deer Creek 0

McAlester (10-1) at Lawton MacArthur (9-2) – Cameron Stadium

This game will be played Saturday afternoon, at 2:30, due to a Class 6A Friday night game and should be a dandy. The Highlanders continue to march on with an eight game win streak. The Buffalo’s, who are trying to get healthy, will take their spread offense on the road.

Prediction: Lawton Mac 30, McAlester 21

Carl Albert (9-2) at Tulsa East Central (10-1) – East Central Sports Complex

Easily the game of the week in 5A. The Titans must take the trip up to T-Town and face an athletic Travis Hill group of Cardinals. CA does not have the skill players from a season ago, but the Titans just simply win in November. This game boils down to East Central’s athlete’s and CA’s discipline.

Prediction: Carl Albert 21, T. East Central 20
Result: T. East Centreal 21, Carl Albert 14

  1. Love the picks this week. I think Mac takes down McAlestar and CA holds the outside shot possibility of a GHS vs CAHS final with a win over TEC. It’d be nice if DC could upset BTW and pretty much guarantee the gold ball stays in the west, but I don’t see it happenin…….

  2. Hey Trey

I have to give it up to you on the CA – Duncan Pick, you pegged it. CA Ruled the roost for 3 Quarters, but then the 4 fingers went up in the air, and the Demons came alive. The 4th Quarter was a big time butt kicking on both sides of the ball.

    Chris

I agree with all your picks, Except CA – TEC. CA had a couple of injuries on defense that has affected them more than I thought it would. TEC 28 CA 21. I hope I am wrong.

The Guthrie – T. Wash game is for the State Title,”Barring a MAJOR Upset.” I will be there for that game, it should be an instant classic.

There is nothing better than High School Football!!!!!!!!

  3. Indeed, kudos to Trey on the Carl Albert – Duncan game.

Clarence – have the defensive injuries occur since Week 7? I knew Taylor had to go to offense (knowing he be back on defense when needed), one injury that I knew about, and the kid who moved away.

I imagine there is a lot of Deer Creek fans this week….lol
