Half the field has been eliminated for the upcoming 2010 Class 5A playoffs and looking at the first round match-ups it appears the home teams will be the favorites.

Guthrie Sports Page takes a look at the first round games.

Durant (5-5) at Guthrie (9-1) – Jelsma Stadium

Third meeting in three seasons for these two clubs, but the first in the playoffs. Both teams will enter with winning streaks with the Jays at seven and the Lions at two. Guthrie was 5-0 against playoff opponents this season while Durant was o-5.

Prediction: You can listen to the game on 105.1 Fm, or on Guthrie Sports Page.
Result: Guthrie 35-6

Bishop Kelley (5-5) at Coweta (8-2)

Coweta enters the playoffs with a five game winning streak and both losses have come from highly ranked teams in East Central and Wagoner. The Tigers defeated Kelley 24-3 back in week three and are playing better since then.

The Tigers are led by Clint Keel, a senior tailback with 820 rushing yards and 17 TDs, and is one of the Tigers elite defensive players.

Prediction: Coweta 34, Kelley 12
Result: Coweta 13-7

Claremore (4-6) at Booker T. Washington (9-1) – S.E. Williams Stadium

The Hornets have been nesting all season long in the top spot of the 5A rankings and a big part of that has been their defense. The defense has shut out five or their last seven opponents and does not bode well for the Zebra’s.

Prediction: T. Washington 41, Claremore 0
Result: Tulsa Washington 43-0

Deer Creek (7-3) at Ardmore (6-4) – Noble Stadium

The Antlers have the greatest chance of going on the road and pulling out a win. Deer Creek has not had much success against the stronger teams, but has what it takes to win this game on the road. The Tigers are coming off a disappointing loss to Altus in Week 10 after a good win over Duncan in week nine.

Prediction: Deer Creek 28, Ardmore 23
Result: Deer Creek 19-14

Ada (5-5) at Lawton Mac (8-2) – Cameron Stadium

The Cougars must make the trip to Lawton and face a Highlander team that has not been tested in the last three weeks and ran through their district with a 7-0 record. The only losses have come from the in-town 6A schools in week two and three.

The Cougars have shown a stout defense at times and will need it to try to slow down a Mac team that has scored 38 or more points in six games this season.

Prediction: Lawton Mac 42, Ada 24
Result: Lawton Mac 35-0

Grove (7-3) at McAlester (9-1) – Hook Eales Stadium

The Buffalo’s were the last team to fall from the 5A unbeaten’s with a loss to Tulsa Washington in the last regular season game. The Buff’s love to throw the ball and have Tony Keifer to do it. The junior has over 2,400 passing yards to lead 5A to go with 27 TD passes.

Grove will look to utilize their running game and keep the ball out of the hands of Keifer. The Ridgerunners depend on their defense a great deal as well.

Prediction: McAlester 24, Grove 14
Result: McAlester 39-20

Skiatook (4-6) at T. East Central (9-1) – East Central Sports Complex

The Cardinals have had one hiccup this season with Tulsa Washington (27-24) after having several opportunities of winning that game and being 10-0. Travis Hill’s club will try to avoid looking ahead to perhaps the defending state champions coming to town in week two.

Skiatook is happy to be in the playoff after dropping their first five game of the season before winning four of their last five.

Prediction: East Central 42, Skiatook  7
Result: East Central 30-8

Duncan (6-4) at Carl Albert (8-2) – Jim Harris Field

The defending champions will have a familiar opponent when they hit the playoffs in the Duncan Demons. It’s a rematch of Carl Albert’s week three, 42-10, win over the Demons, in Duncan.

The Demons had one of the elite players in the state in Dominque Petties, but has been ruled ineligible for the last several weeks. Titans know how to win once November comes along.

Prediction: Carl Albert 44, Duncan 12
Result: Carl Albert 30-27 OT
