Waves at Guthrie Lake were not kind to a kayaker on Wednesday afternoon as an elderly man was rescued by firefighters and police officers.
Just after 4 p.m. Guthrie emergency officials responded to the north end of the lake – near the spill way – after a reporting party called 911 stating a kayak was over turned and a man was in the water.
A police officer was the first on the scene and was able to assist the gentleman out of the water.
The man, who was fishing, said the waves had over taken the kayak and forced him into the water. The man had difficulty getting out of the water due to several slippery rocks at the shore line.
Firefighters and officers were able to get the kayak out of the water and back to the owner.
The kayaker did not suffer any injuries.
