Man pleads guilty to shooting with intent to kill in road rage incident

A Logan County man has pleaded guilty to a felony charge stemming from a road rage shooting that took place in March 2024. Jon Sinon entered his guilty plea on Jan. 17, nearly a year after the incident, which escalated into gunfire along State Highway 33.

Sinon was originally arrested and booked into the county jail on May 16, 2024, with a $50,000 bond following an investigation by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office. The incident, first reported by Guthrie News Page, began in Guthrie and ended near Cedar Valley.

According to authorities, the situation unfolded near the intersection of SH-33 and SH-74 when a Logan County deputy encountered a driver who had just been involved in a shooting. The victim recounted that the confrontation started when they passed a white Ford F-150 with a camper shell in Guthrie. The driver of the F-150, later identified as Sinon, allegedly began yelling and making aggressive gestures. When the victim pulled over to let Sinon pass, he instead stopped, exited his truck, and fired a shot into the victim’s vehicle.

The bullet shattered the truck’s rear window, hit the passenger-side headliner, and ricocheted inside the vehicle. The victim quickly drove away and called 911. Deputies later recovered a .45 caliber bullet casing at the scene.

Investigators used the Guthrie Police Department’s Flock camera system to identify the suspect’s vehicle and tag number, leading them to Sinon’s residence. Deputies found a Ford truck matching the description and questioned Sinon. He admitted to a road confrontation but downplayed it as an exchange of gestures with the other driver. Although he acknowledged owning a .45 caliber firearm and using it earlier at a shooting range, he denied firing a shot during the altercation.

With his guilty plea, Sinon was sentenced to 10 years with the Department of Corrections, with all but six months suspended. He will serve his time in the Logan County Jail and was also ordered to pay fines, incarceration, and court costs. Following his court appearance, Sinon was taken into custody to begin serving his sentence.
