The Guthrie Lady Jays tennis team took part in the Ardmore Girl’s Tennis Tournament on Saturday. Unfortunately, the BlueJay tennis squad were unable to get their matches in due to rain on Friday.
The No. 1 doubles team of Makaya Coker and Kamber Smedley placed third.
After receiving a first round bye they defeated Byng 6-4, 7-6 in the second round, but turned around and lost to Duncan in the semi-finals 6-0, 6-2. In their final match they defeated McAlester 7-5, 6-4.
In No. 2 doubles action, Guthrie’s Brianna Berryman and Ryan Robbins placed fourth. The duo started 2-0 after a first round bye and defeating McAlester in the second round 6-4, 7-6. However, Duncan edged out the team In the semi-finals 7-5, 6-2.
In their last match for third, they lost to Durant in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 5-10.
In singles action, Madison Mize placed eighth in No. 1 singles and Kiah Thomas took seventh in No. 2 singles.
Mize won her match against Lawton MacArthur 6-0, 6-0 before losing to Ada and Crossing in straight sets (6-0. 6-0).
Thomas won her first match against Ardmore 6-3, 6-1, but dropped here next match to Byng 6-1, 6-1. She won the final match by injury default.
