With the combined forces of the Guthrie Police Department, Guthrie Fire Department (GFD), City of Guthrie employees and the American Legion, 33 kids are enjoying the Christmas holiday a touch better.
With Santa Claus, music and presents inside the council chambers of City Hall, children ranging zero to 14 years of age received Christmas gifts on Thursday evening.
Detective Erik Lamb spearheaded the event, but quickly deflected the attention to the Legion and GFD. Lamb said the American Legion donated 95 percent of the gifts, including hand-made blankets, and GFD was instrumental in sorting out the presents and sharing stories with the children.
Additional presents were donated by members of the community.
Lamb says he is hopeful to make the event an annual occurrence.
Lamb says a few presents remained from Thursday and families are welcomed to go to the police department, located at 306 W. Oklahoma, and ask for an officer to help assists with presents while they last.
