Commissioners make annual inspection of jail; Chairman and vice-chair voted on

The Logan County Board of Commissioners held their first meeting of 2016 on Monday morning. The commissioners inspected the Logan County jail and voted on the chairman and vice-chairman of the board.

First on the agenda was selecting a chairman for the three member board. District 3 Commissioner Monty Piearcy recommended District 2 Commissioner Mike Pearson, who served as the chairman in 2015. Pearson second the motion and received two yes votes from Pearson and Piearcy. District 1 Commissioner Marven Goodman casted the lone no vote.

Next, Goodman made the motion to select Piearcy as the vice-chairman and received a second from Pearson. Both commissioners voted yes while Piearcy abstained from the vote.

Afterwards, commissioners walked across Harrison Ave. for the annual inspection of the Logan County jail. Sheriff Jim Bauman and Chief Deputy Don Hudgins walked the group throughout the jail and answering questions.

Commissioner Piearcy says he looks to make sure the jail, which was opened in Dec. 2007, is remaining cleaned and kept it up as it should.

The meeting ended in an executive session with Assistant District Attorney Glen Hickerson regarding a pending claim and potential lawsuit. Details were not revealed and no action was taken.
