The Board of County Commissioners wrapped up their final meeting in 2015 on Dec. 31. The commissioners tabled a motion of appointing a member to the Guthrie EMS board. Also, a date was announced for a free conceal carry class for county employees.
Commissioner Marven Goodman requested the motion of considering appointing or reappointing a member to the Guthrie EMS 1-1 Board of Directors. The lone applicant was Linda Miller, who is a current member.
The commissioners agreed to move the motion to the Jan. 15 meeting in hopes of picking up additional applicants. To be considered a person must reside inside the Guthrie school district.
During commissioner comments, Commissioner Monty Piearcy recommended possible action in a future meeting on an EMS advisory board. Piearcy says he continues to receive messages from concerned citizens on the future of EMS services.
Piearcy suggested two members from each of three districts and one at-large member to serve and come up with a plan to fund EMS if the current plan fails. Commissioner Mike Pearson said he liked the idea. Commissioner Goodman did not speak on the recommendation.
Sealed bids were opened for a new brush pumper for the Oak Cliff Fire Department. The fire department’s board will meet on Jan. 12 and will consider the bids. The commissioners will follow-up the department’s consideration on Jan. 29.
Commissioner Goodman announced the open carry class for county employee’s will be Saturday, Jan. 30 inside the Twin Lakes Community Center beginning at 9 a.m.
On Dec. 15, elected county officers unanimously voted to allow county employees to defend themselves while at work with open carry. Related story: County employees now have the option of open carry while at work
Goodman, who is serving as an instructor at no cost, says employees should bring a ball cap, eye and ear protection and I.D. to sign in for their certificate. Guns and ammunition will be supplied by the commissioner.
