Photographer captures photos of bald eagles at Guthrie Lake

Bald eagles continue to make Guthrie Lake and Liberty Lake their home and are often spotted by nearby residents and motorists. On Friday, a local photographer and business owner captured two of the birds up close.

Asa Nelson, owner of Warren Monument Company, got the opportunity to see the eagle at Liberty Lake on Friday and captured the moment with his camera.

Bald eagles are not actually bald; the name derives from an older meaning of “white headed”.

The bald eeagle is both the national bird and national animal of the United States of America. The eagle appears on its Seal. In the late 20th century it was on the brink of extirpation in the continental United States.

Populations recovered and the species was removed from the U.S. federal government’s list of endangered species in 1995 and transferred to the list of threatened species. It was removed from the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife in the Lower 48 States on in 2007.
