STILLWATER, Okla. – Three Logan County 4-H’ers were recognized for their achievements at the 102nd State 4-H Roundup that took place recently at Oklahoma State University. They all received their awards during the Masonic Charity Foundation of Oklahoma Honor Night Assembly where club members from across the state were awarded more than $146,000 in educational scholarships.
Jada Cleek was named the state record book winner in the horticulture and plant science project. The Oklahoma Horticultural Society sponsors the $1,200 scholarship she received. She also was inducted into 4-H Key Club. A six-year veteran of 4-H, she is a member of the South Logan County 4-H Club. For several years, she has traveled across Oklahoma showing her rabbits. Working with her club leader, Cleek secured a $1,000 grant for community beautification. The grant was used to purchase shrubs and annuals that were planted at a new school in Guthrie. She is a member of National Honor Society and choir. She is a junior at Guthrie High School and the daughter of Kent Cleek.
Audrey Allen received the Advanced Fabric and Fashion scholarship. This $1,200 award is sponsored by the Wilma Wendt Patillo Endowment. She was also recognized as a member of the Blue Award Group and inducted into 4-H Key Club. In addition, Allen placed third in the Sholar Essay Contest and was presented with the Enid News and Eagle Award. An active 4-H’er for seven years, she has reached nearly 1,800 people through her public speaking efforts. Serving as her local club reporter, she incorporates video reporting as a way to tell the 4-H story. Allen also has sewn more than 80 garments for her fabrics and fashions projects and teaches tie-dye workshops. She is a junior at Guthrie High School where she is a member of the band and golf team. She is the daughter of Russ and Susan Allen.
Marion Stewart received the $1,200 Brady Benson Memorial Scholarship sponsored by the Benson Family Endowment. She was also awarded the $2,500 Retta Miller Scholarship sponsored by the Retta Miller Endowment. In addition, she placed second in the Sholar Essay Contest. Stewart has been an active 4-H’er for seven years and is a South Logan County 4-H Club member. Stewart has taken full advantage of her 4-H membership by taking part in everything from cupcake wars to shooting sports to bucket calves. Stewart has helped her club donate more than 400 clothing items to Charter Oak Elementary School and has participated in a Clean Up America project. She is a college freshman this fall and the daughter of the late Carl and Donna Stewart and Gail Holt O’Neil.
