STILLWATER, Okla. – Four Logan County 4-H’ers were recognized for their achievements during the 101st State 4-H Roundup that took place recently at Oklahoma State University.
These club members walked away with their share of more than $140,000 in educational scholarships that were presented at the Honors Night Assembly.
Audrey Allen, Guthrie, was named the state record book winner in the health and fitness project. She received a $1,200 scholarship sponsored by the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives. She is an active member of the South Logan County 4-H Club where she participates in the health and fitness project, along with the recreation and leisure arts project. An active 4-H’er for seven years, she was instrumental in starting her community service project called Clover Clothes Closet. She collects long pants, underwear and socks to donate to Charter Oak Elementary School. She had donated more than 300 items so far. She also teaches a tie-dye workshop that incorporates mental health. One of Allen’s favorite activities in her bucket calf project where she has so much fun she now volunteers to help with the county program. She is a student at Guthrie High School and is the daughter of Russ and Susan Allen.
Mulhall resident Bridger Arrington received a $1,200 scholarship sponsored by the Oklahoma Vegetation Management Association and the Dr. Gary and Becky Stone Endowment for being named the state record book winner in the agriculture and natural resources section of the all other projects category. He also was inducted into the 4-H Key Club. His main project areas are beef, agriculture and shooting sports in the Mulhall-Orlando 4-H Club. During his seven-year 4-H career he has taught workshops on the local, county and district levels. He has also held offices on the local, county and district levels. Arrington serves as a coach for the commercial cattle grading teams, and they have won several individual and team awards. He is the son of Ryan and Kayce Arrington.
KayLea Taylor, Mulhall, received three scholarships, including the $1,200 Brady Benson Memorial scholarship given in memory of Brady Benson, the $4,000 Edmonson Ambassador Scholarship sponsored by the Edmonson Ambassador Endowment, and the $1,905 Shaw Family Scholarship sponsored by the Shaw Family Endowment. She has been an active 4-H for nine years and is a member of the Mulhall-Orlando 4-H Club where her main project areas are food science, apparel design and construction, goats, leadership, citizenship and babysitting. She coordinated a food driving during National 4-H Week that served 15 families. She has demonstrated her leadership skills by presenting various workshops on the local, county, district and state levels. KayLea is a 2022 graduate of Mulhall-Orlando High School where she served as valedictorian of her graduating class. She is the daughter of Roland and Jennifer Taylor.
Wyatt Hood, Guthrie, was awarded the $1,200 Charles and Betty Smith 4-H Entrepreneur Scholarship sponsored by Orleen and Shane Smith, and the $2,500 R.D. Farmer Scholarship sponsored by the R.D. Farmer Endowment. Hood has been an active member of 4-H for nine years and belongs to the Guthrie 4-H Club. His main project areas are agriculture, beef, soil conservation, poultry and forestry. He has demonstrated his leadership skills by serving in various officer roles on the local and county levels and has reached more than 33,000 people through his service projects. Hood has mentored youth at Science Fest, September Fest and the Oklahoma State Fair. He has served as the Oklahoma representative at Youth and Government for the past three years. He graduated from Classen School of Advanced Studies in 2022 and is the son of Randy and Susan Hood.
