District One: Resurfaced gravel set for Charter Oak

District 1 County Commissioner Marven Goodman

Waterloo road between Western and Santa Fe is now open for through traffic. Oklahoma County road crews put the finishing touches on the repair of Waterloo Road early this week by dressing the shoulder areas.

With Waterloo open again we are taking the opportunity to re-dress Charter Oak between Western and Santa Fe which served as Waterloo detour route.  This is a gravel road that we are resurfacing by widening, raising, and crowing the road base.  We should finish up next week with the entire mile of resurfaced gravel.

Prairie Grove west of Kelly is now open to through traffic. The road was closed due to damage created by the latest flooding which undercut the road where large tin horn crossed the road.  With the arrival of the replacement tin horn this week our road maintenance crew finished repairing the undercut road and re-opened it this past Friday afternoon, August 14.

The delay of the new asphalt resurface project for county road EW-87/Charter Oak from Kelley Ave East to Broadway may be off high center with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and Burlington Northern Rail Way. They were waiting on an agreement over right of way with the rail road that crosses Charter Oak which could take as long as 60 additional days and ODOT could not provide an estimate of how long the additional delay would be. I was just notified by the prime contractor on August 19th that they will be staging equipment and materials beginning Thursday, August 20th, begin road preparation between August 21 and 25 with full overlay to begin on August 26. The project should finish up by the end of August, weather permitting. Thanks to Atlas Paving for this update.

Good progress continues to be made on the Coltrane Road utility relocation as the OG&E contractors are now engaged and setting poles on the new right of way. We have a funding and construction planning meeting next week to go over the specifics of the construction phase and review funds available and grants needed with the goal of finishing this project by the end of FY 2018.

Until next week, be safe out there on our county roads and bridges.
