The Guthrie Lady Jays had a huge performance Friday night when they hosted Del City on Senior night.
With the 9-0 victory over the Eagles, the Lady Jays secure their spot in the playoffs for the second straight year.
Head coach Monte Myers was very pleased with his players and is hopeful they can pull off another historic season. Senior captain Mikayla Williams is believing the same.
“We have a good chance to get passed the second round,” Williams said. “I think we will win the first two games, I have high confidence in that.”
The game was dominated from start to finish by Guthrie.
Even with a 4-0 lead at halftime, the team did not settle and scored five goals in the second half to finish their last home game of the season.
Two hat tricks scored by Mercy Dement and Emma Taylor, two goals by Emily Terherst and a goal by senior Mikayla Williams capped off this stellar performance.
Guthrie is now riding a four-game winning streak, while winning six out of the last seven which negates the rough start to the season where they lost three of the first five games.
“We started doing different drills and our mindset changed, we had to get it together,” said Williams.
Lady Jays remain in third place with one district game remaining.
Guthrie travels to Northwest Classen on Tuesday.
