Downtown sidewalk project completed, ensuring ADA accessibility

The downtown sidewalk project in Guthrie has been completed, enhancing accessibility and charm in the heart of the city.

This initiative was funded in part by the Transportation Alternatives grant program through the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, with the City of Guthrie contributing 20% of the cost-share.

Ellsworth Construction, based in Tulsa, was awarded the contract for $1,068,600.

The project involved a complete removal and replacement of the sidewalks From Cleveland Ave. to just south of Harrison Ave., creating and ensuring ADA accessibility for all.

“We’re excited to share that any previously existing brick sidewalks were carefully removed and returned, and we even expanded brick areas,” City Manager Eddie Faulkner said.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to our current and former city council members, hardworking staff, supportive community members, and the design team for their invaluable contributions to this project,” Faulkner added.

The new sidewalks promise to provide a safer, more inclusive environment for all residents and visitors, enhancing the overall aesthetic and functionality of Guthrie’s historic downtown area.
