Department of Public Safety officials report a decrease in traffic fatalities. There were 45 fatalities in November 2012 compared to 60 in the same month last year.
During the month of November there were six motorcyclists and five pedestrians who died in traffic related crashes. The highest daily fatality numbers include 11 deaths on Sundays, dropping to ten on Saturdays. There were eight days in the month of November the Department of Public Safety reported no fatalities.
Five of the fatality crashes were alcohol-related. Thirty-five of the fatality victims were Oklahoma residents and ten nonresident. There were 28 male and 16 female victims.
Nine of the fatality victims were under the age of 21. The 31 – 40 year-old age group led the fatality count with 10.
Ottawa County led the state with a fatality count of six, followed by Oklahoma County with five fatalities.
The highest number of fatality crashes occurred on State Highways with 14 fatalities, followed by 12 on US Highways.
Sixty-six percent of those who died in traffic collisions were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
