Despite landing four golfers in the top of the 10 of the State Preview Tournament in Lawton, the defending 5A champs came up short of the team title.
With high winds and standing water on Lawton’s Country Club golf course, the Bluejays finished with four of their five golfers with score cards of 79 or lower in their two rounds on Monday.
The same course will host the 5A state tournament on May 6 and 7.
Duncan (600) came away with the team win by three shots over the Jays (603). Bishop Kelley, who is expected once again to be in contention for the 5A title, finished third with seven shots back (607).
Guthrie recorded a 300 in the first 18 holes before giving back three shots in the second round.
Luke Morgan held steady by shooting a 71 and 75 for a 146 score card to finish third overall behind Kelley’s Davis Woodliff (136) and Duncan’s two bag Bryce Carr (145).
Bo Robbins was next for the Jays with a 151 to finish in seventh. Finishing out the top 10 was Luke Roach (ninth overall) and Brady Hirzel’s (tenth) with scores of 153.
Luke Dale and Jaxon Hirzel rounded out the Jays scoring with a final score of 171.
Up next for the Jays will be the deep, competitive field in Ardmore at Dornick Hills and Lakeview Golf Course on April 22.
Guthrie will then host the largest tournament field in the state on April 25 for the annual Bluejay Bash.
