Despite battling injuries and illness, the Guthrie Wrestling team finished fifth in the two-day Putnam City Invitational Tournament and landed two first place finisher’s.
Sophomore Bryan Dutton captured the 145 weight division title and Timothy O’Connor took top honors at 112 pounds. Dennis Murphy (160) and Michael Conner (189) made the finals, but fell short for second place finishes.
Guthrie, who is currently ranked sixth in the coaches polls, had multiple wrestler’s out, including Landry Chappell, who is recovering from football season, but is expected to be back for the trip to Duncan this weekend. Devin Bilyeu was out with a collar-bone injury, and John Davison was out with pneumonia and also is expected to be in action in Duncan.
