An early morning food delivery ended with a man being transported to an Oklahoma City hospital after a rollover crash along Division Street early Friday.
Guthrie police responded to the crash just after 2 a.m. near Mineral Wells Park after receiving an alert triggered by Apple’s iPhone Crash Detection feature. The technology is designed to automatically recognize severe vehicle accidents and contact emergency services when a user may be unable to do so.
After a brief search of the area, officers located a silver four-door Nissan Titan that had left the roadway and rolled into a ravine near the creek along the north side of the park.
Initial reports indicate the driver was traveling northbound on Division Street when the vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons, struck a speed limit sign, and tumbled down into the ravine. The truck came to rest on its side near the creek.
Guthrie EMS crews were able to free the man from the vehicle. He was able to walk on his own to the gurney, though the force of the impact caused his shoes to come off during the crash.
The driver told authorities he was delivering food for a third-party food delivery service at the time of the accident. He was transported to OU Medical Center for treatment.
A wrecker service removed the vehicle from the ravine shortly before 4 a.m.
