Eighth grade Jays secure first win; seventh grade still searching

The junior high football teams were searching for their first wins of the season last week in Shawnee. The eighth grade team was able to do so, but the seventh grade will continue to search.

For the seventh grade team, they fell behind early and was down 24-0 before Kaiden Stevenson spotted Josh Rains in the end zone late in the game.

Shawnee proved to be bigger and more physical.

Meanwhile, the eighth grade team even their season at 1-1 with a convincing 26-0 shut-out win over the Wolves.

It did not take the Jays long as Cale Coffman returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for the score.

Tervae Williams was the next Bluejay to score when he took off for a 50-yard run to give the Jays a 12-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, Coffman tossed a 50-yard touchdown pass to Bo Robbins to increase the lead.

The offense hit pay dirt one last time when Justin Adams rushed into the end zone from 40 yards out.

As impressive as the offense was, the Jays defense was equally impressive. They held Shawnee to just three first downs and the Wolves came into Guthrie territory only one time.

The junior high teams return back to Jelsma Stadium on Thursday when they host Enid. Kickoff is set for 5:30.
