Unfortunately, for the folks living on Santa Fe road, off of Highway 33, they once again had a multitude of firefighters in their area.
The latest fire broke out just after 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and before the Guthrie Fire Department could arrive approximately 20-30 acres was already engulfed near the area of 5050 S. Santa Fe.
Crews remain on the scene at the present time (7:31 p.m.). Current Updates
Guthrie Fire Chief Eric Harlow said approximately 160 to 200 acres were affected by the fire that Battalion Chief Greg Machtolff said was “moving hard” upon arrival.
Guthrie was assisted by Crescent, Deer Creek, Edmond, Sooner, Woodcrest, Cashion and Oak Cliff fire departments. The Red Cross of Logan County responded with meals for crew members as did Logan County Deputies for traffic control as the smoke could be seen for miles.
Firefighters were able to keep the aggressive fire from approaching homes in the area and were aided by a number of plow fields that the fire ran into and extinguish itself.
Homeowners could be seen watering their yards.
On Wednesday, fire crews were dispatched to the north side of Santa Fe where 20 acres went up in flames. Last month, a fire in the same area charred up several more acres.
It is uncertain what started the fire.
Earlier this week, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin declared a state-wide burn ban.
