There is never a good time for your vehicle to break down alongside the interstate, especially on a hot summer day hundreds of miles away from home. One family encountered this scenario as they attempted to make a cancer treatment appointment in Oklahoma City. Without the help of an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper they may not have made it.
Lori Hill was driving with her son and mother to the Stephenson Cancer Center for her mother to receive treatment, but a mile from the clinic their car ran out of gas. With no road side assistance, temperatures in the triple digits and 200-plus miles away from their hometown of Broken Bow, Hill had no one to call but law enforcement.
“They sent me an Angel,” Hill said in a social media post.
Her angel was Lt. Betsy Randolph.
Hill says Randolph took control of the situation from the beginning by loading her family into her air conditioned patrol car and transporting them to the treatment facility. Randolph stayed with the family until it was time for Hill’s mother to begin her treatment.
“I just want to express how much she helped us. And how thankful we are,” Hill said.
During treatment, Randolph took Hill and her son (Dakota) to get fuel and once back at the stranded vehicle begin to put fuel into the car.
“She saw us through, all the way through,” Hill said. “We thank you and appreciate your service Betsy Randolph Oklahoma Highway Patrol of OKC!”
Thank you Trooper Randolph for going above and beyond
