The Oklahoma Department of Transportation was awarded $4.28 million in federal grants to help upgrade rural public transportation fleets and facilities, including First Capital Trolley which is based in Guthrie.
“We are very pleased to have been one of the awardees for the competitive grant,” Transportation Director of First Capital Trolley Melissa Fesler said in an email to Guthrie News Page.
In total, about $3.9 million of the grant money will be used to help 12 Oklahoma rural transit agencies. The local agency will receive more than $762,000.
Fesler said, “These funds will help replace an aging fleet. We also were awarded facility improvements which will help us repair our current facility and expand to help accommodate our growing fleet.”
First Capital Trolley plans to use $119,000 to help purchase two buses, $355,725 to help buy nine minivans and $287,596 to help repair its crumbling parking lot and construct additional covered parking areas for employee and transit vehicles.
“All of our transportation services are operated out of our Guthrie location, but we serve Logan, Lincoln and Payne County,” Fesler concluded with.
