Four Bluejays advance to State Powerlift Meet

The Guthrie High School powerlift team qualified four Bluejays for this week’s State powerlift meet on Friday at Norman North High School.

Guthrie competed in the Region I Class 5A regional on Saturday in Clinton. In the team competition, Guthrie finished runner-up.

War Mothershed, Preston Roberts, Seth Dean and Justin Dutton qualified individually for state and will pull, push and squat in the large class (3A-6A).

Oklahoma high school powerlifting is overlooked by the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association.

“Overall, the team performed well,” head coach Kelly Beeby said. “All of our athletes posted one or more personal best in each event.”

Roberts was awarded Outstanding Deadlift by clearing 500 pounds with his 175-pound frame.

Roberts and Mothershed will battle in the 181-pound class, Dean goes in the 220-pound division and Dutton goes up against the best heavyweights. 30 athletes will compete in each weight class state-wide.
