GHS athletic ticket prices on the rise in 2010-2011?

Publisher Note: Updated story School board approves small ticket increase

Some Guthrie fans may have to reach down and find some extra change to watch their BlueJays this coming athletic season.

Guthrie High School athletic fans may expect an increase in ticket prices as the 2010-11 season kicks off this fall.

One item on the Guthrie school board agenda will ask for a vote on whether or not to increase athletic ticket prices for the 2010-2011 season. The board will gather, Monday evening, July 12th, at 7:00 in a special meeting.

Headlining the board meeting is the $89,745,000 bond issue that will be sent to the polls on August 24th for construction of a newly built high school with athletic facilities.

Guthrie Superintendent Terry Simpson received a recommendation letter on the proposed ticket prices this past Thursday and will present it to the board for approval.

The All Sport Season passes for home games would increase from $50 to $60 for adults and $15 to $25 for GHS students.

Football season passes, that includes five varsity, four  junior varsity, and four junior high games, would increase from $25 to $35. Reserved seating would be set for $50 from the previous $40. Single game tickets will remain the same for adults at $5, but student tickets would rise from $3 to $5 for varsity football games.

Single game tickets for junior varsity, 9th grade, and junior high football would remain the same at $4 for adults and $3 for students.

Guthrie basketball, wrestling, softball, baseball, and soccer single game tickets would increase from $4 to $5, but student prices would remain the same at $3. No price increase is scheduled for junior high basketball, softball, and baseball.

Guthrie is not the only district set to rise athletic tickets.

The Shawnee school board recently approved an increase of a $1.00 for both adults and students for all sports with a unanimous 5-0 vote. The $1 increase will now make general admission for Shawnee varsity football tickets to $6.00. The elevated increase is expected to give Shawnee athletics a $14,000 increase according to the Shawnee News Star. The News Star also hinted that fellow Suburban Conference foe Carl Albert is expected to increase their ticket prices.

  1. whats wrong with the H.S now? somethin my family enjoys doing together more than anything else… is watching guthrie football. we get 2 every game hours early. sometimes even b4 the TEAM! lol. and because my parents worked for the school district, they got their passes for free. as do all other GPS employees. (saves our family $150 a season~ home fb games only!!!) my parents were laid off this year, and are havin difficulty finding jobs. hope they can figure something out b4 the season begins. its expensive payin for all the home and away game tickets/gas prices/food/ and playoffs when/if that time comes around. but it sure is great family time!

  2. Something has to fund the school. I think a $10 ANNUAL increase is rather small when it comes to the total increase in school funding.

Think of it this way, bri, if GHS would’ve done this ten years ago, they could’ve kept both your parents on the payroll for another year or two…….

On that note, faculty should have to pay something to get in games if students have to pay is all I’m saying. Students create the job opportunities for this faculty anyways………

  3. oh i agree, the community should help fund. was just talkin about the hard times of economy. i think a new h.s would be neat. a lot of money would be saved if pre k – 5th were all moved into the old H.S. 6th, 7th, & 8th grades moved into GUES. that way cotteral, central, fogarty and GJHS could be shut down. i dont however feel faculty should pay. they work, and the pay is not so great. to me its a token of appreciation for all they do. kind of a seniority thing.
