GHS Powerlifting teams wins 5A regional

The Guthrie High School powerlifting team won the 5A Northwest Region in Bridge Creek over the weekend and are sending eight lifters for this week’s State Tournament.

The Jays finished with 125 points and was followed up by El Reno with 105 points to claim the regional win.

The state tournament will take place on Friday morning in El Reno.

To qualify for state competition, a lifter must finish in the top five of their weight class at regionals, or earn an at-large bid. At the state tournament, 30 athletes will compete in each weight class state-wide.

Oklahoma high school powerlifting is overlooked by the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association.

Northwest Regional Results from Saturday, March 9 in Bridge Creek

Caed Guggisburg finished 2nd in the 157 pound weight class.

Max Mefferd finished 6th in the 157 pound weight class.

Caleb Sanders finished 1st in the 168 pound weight class.

Justin Adams finished 7th in the 181 pound weight

Tervae Williams finished 5th in the 198 pound weight class.

Justin Ergang finished 4th in the 275 pound weight class.

Dylan Dollar finished 6th in the 275 pound weight class.

Cody Hickman finished 2nd in the HWT division.
