High school prom can be an expensive endeavor for students and their parents, a local bible study group tried to ease the financial burden by offering free gowns.
The study group, along with generous donations, helped offer advice and select the evening dresses for some Guthrie High School students.
Some dresses were new and some were gently used, but all were free.
“It made it real easy for my family for me to go to prom,” one student said. “They had a style for everyone.”
Organizers gave away 36 free dresses, inside the high school, to the girls this week after they gave away 25 a year ago and gave a special gift to over 75 girls.
“The look on their faces when they see themselves in a beautiful dress is priceless,” Dana Curtin said who helps organize the event.
Curtin says they registered around 100 girls for door prizes donated by Tiki Tan, manicure/pedicure by Elise Friese, and 10 hair appointments with Amanda Lawson. Each girl who came in was also given a special gift.
“We will now begin accepting dresses that are new or like new (dresses must be clean). Cash donations can also be given at F&M Bank under the name ‘Bible Study Account’. We are looking forward to growing bigger and helping more girls every year,” Curtin said.

The junior-senior prom is set for April 27.
