God’s Food Bank exists to help feed the hungry of Logan County. Carol Thorn, God’s Food Bank Director noted, “We have well over 600 families signed up for regular distribution of food and on an average week we will provide bags of food items to over 450 families.”
Thorn went on to say, “Of course the holiday season is a time of huge need and last week we provided 601 Thanksgiving turkeys for families throughout Logan County.”
The Food Bank is also critically involved with the special “backpack” and “school pantry” programs at elementary schools in Guthrie and Coyle.
Steve Gentling, United Way President added, “The official statistics reflect one out of every four children in our county struggle with hunger every day and almost 15 percent of Logan County’s population is “insecure” about where their next meal will come from. Hunger is not just an issue in foreign lands, it is an issue right here in Logan County and God’s Food Bank is doing a wonderful job in providing a tremendous amount of food to those in need. They are a wonderful partner with the United Way!”
Thorn concluded, “We certainly have some challenges in trying to provide for the hungry in our communities, but we are blessed to have a great volunteer staff, a caring and generous community and a fantastic United Way helping us. Through all of their efforts and support we feel we make a difference every day. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!”
The United Way of Logan County campaign continues through December. The United Way funds support specific programs in 10 partner agencies and last year those programs impacted approximately one out of every four citizens of Logan County.
