Duffy Martin, owner of the Cedar Valley and Cimarron National Golf Courses and a 60-year PGA member, died Friday. He was 98 years old.

Duffy Martin“His entire life was devoted to exercise and staying in shape, which enabled him to have a… very full and healthy life until recently,” a family statement said.

In 1949, Marti opened Duffy’s Golf Land and soon after built Brookside. Loving the challenge of golf course construction, Duffy completed Broadmore, then Cedar Valley and Cimarron National Golf Clubs. Cedar Valley R V Park and Par 3 golf course were his last venture.

In 1973, Martin developed Cedar Valley Golf Club, which holds the Augusta and International golf courses. A few years later, Martin developed both Cimarron National Golf Course and Aqua Canyon Golf Course on the grounds of Cimarron National just a few minutes east of Cedar Valley Golf Cours.

“It forever was his wish that this day not be a day of sadness, but that it be remembered as the time the smiles would out number the tears,” the statement went on to say.

Martin, who just missed his 99th birthday by a few weeks, was featured in an ESPN article in 2007.

Memorial services will be on Tuesday at the Life Church in Edmond at 11 a.m.
