The Guthrie Police Department (GPD) accepted a $5,000 grant from Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group (OMAG) to secure additional body cameras.
The Guthrie city council approved the grant with a 6-0 vote. The City will not have to match any of the grant.
In 2014, GPD was awarded 13 wearable digital video cameras at a cost of $10,920. A state grant was awarded for $10,000.
Police Chief Don Sweger says he is hopeful the new body cameras will be in used in 60 days.
The body camera system helps officers to document actions and evidence in a much better fashion, resulting in less liability to the City and more effective prosecutions.
